Dr. Mac was raised in San Francisco, California. He received his undergraduate degree in Physiology from the University of California, Davis in 1993 and his Doctorate in Dental Surgery from the University of California, San Francisco in 1998. Upon graduation from dental school, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Dental Corps. He spent his Credentialing tour at Naval Dental Clinic Pearl Harbor, Hawaii from 1998 to 2001. He then spent the next four years in Naval Medical Center San Diego as a general dentist, completed a year of Advanced Clinical Practice Residency in General Dentistry and, finally, two years as the Dental Department Head aboard the USS Boxer (LHD 4) deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In 2005, Dr. Mac entered residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at National Naval Medical Besthesda, MD and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. After completing residency in 2009, Dr. Mac was stationed for two years aboard his second ship, this time on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Dr. Mac remains on active duty as a Commander in the US Navy Dental Corps. He is currently a staff oral surgeon at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Naval Base 32nd Street and Naval Medical Center San Diego and instructor for AEGD, GPR and OMFS residents.
Dr. Mac is board certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is an active member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association and the San Diego County Dental Society. He is licensed in the state of California as a dental provider as well as a provider in General Anesthesia.
